2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe: two software-related losses of drive power. The October 2025 update shutdowns are covered by recall 25V710000. A second, ongoing power loss in Electric mode that owners link to the Recall 68C battery remedy (25V741000) has no recall

What owners report
All 62 complaints are about 2024 Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrids, and they fall into two clear groups plus a smaller mixed set.
(1) About 33 complaints came in October 2025, almost all describing the same failure starting 10–11 October 2025, just after an over-the-air Uconnect/telematics update. The vehicle loses all drive power while moving. The 'D' indicator flashes, a 'shift to Park' message appears and the check-engine light comes on. The failure comes back within minutes of each restart. Recall 25V710000 (2023–2025 Wrangler 4xe, a software error in an over-the-air update that may cause loss of drive power) matches this group exactly.
(2) A second group starts in December 2025 and accounts for most of the recent surge (11 complaints in September 2026). Owners say that after the dealer installed the Recall 68C software (NHTSA 25V741000, the high-voltage battery fire recall), power in Electric mode is capped (one owner reads about 43–48 kW) and fades after a few miles, on hills or above about 45–55 mph. 'Electric Mode Temporarily Unavailable' then appears, and the gas engine starts abruptly only after a gap of several seconds with little or no drive. Several dealers and the manufacturer told owners this is normal behaviour. No recall addresses this second problem.
(3) A smaller set describes full shutdowns or Turtle (limp) mode with 'Service Hybrid Electric Vehicle System' warnings, some before the update and some after 68C. The cause of these is unclear. Some may relate to engine-debris recall 25V766000, which also covers this vehicle. The 2023 and 2025 Wrangler model years are also signalling and surging on this theme, which fits a software problem shared across the 2023–2025 4xe line.
How it fails
Group 1 (October 2025, covered by 25V710000): right after an over-the-air update, the 4xe suddenly loses all drive power at speeds from 15 to 70 mph. The accelerator stops responding, 'D' flashes, a 'shift to Park / press brake and start' message appears and the check-engine light comes on. Some owners also report losing power steering as the vehicle slows. Restarting brings power back for only seconds to minutes, with up to 5–7 losses on one short drive, and several vehicles were towed. Group 2 (after Recall 68C, December 2025 to now): in Electric mode, power output is limited and drops after about 5–20 minutes, on grades or above about 45–55 mph, even with 40% or more battery charge. Speed falls despite the pedal being pressed. After 5–15 seconds the message 'Electric Mode Temporarily Unavailable' appears and the gas engine starts with no warm-up, sometimes with a harsh surge forward. Owners say this is repeatable, often daily, with no trouble codes, and that it never happened before the 68C software was installed.
Safety risk
Group 1 left vehicles with no drive power in live traffic lanes, including on highways at 60–70 mph, sometimes without power steering as the vehicle came to a stop. Group 2 causes several seconds of little or no acceleration while merging, passing, climbing hills or crossing intersections, followed by an abrupt surge when the engine starts. Several owners report near rear-end collisions or having to brake hard. One complaint is flagged as a crash. Its narrative describes a near miss after losing all drive power and power steering, without saying whether a collision happened. No injuries, deaths or fires are reported.
Findings and the complaints behind them
About 33 complaints describe a sudden, repeating total loss of drive power beginning 10–11 October 2025, right after an over-the-air Uconnect update. Owners report 'shift to Park' messages, a flashing 'D' and check-engine lights, with the failure returning within minutes of each restart. One owner retrieved code P1E1D.

Highway-speed shutdowns in the October group left vehicles coasting across lanes or stopped without a shoulder. Some owners report losing power steering and some vehicles needed a tow.

Twelve independent owners report reduced electric power, then 'Electric Mode Temporarily Unavailable' and a delayed, abrupt start of the gas engine, all beginning after the Recall 68C (25V741000) software was installed.
NHTSA complaint numbers: 11770542, 11767648, 11766230, 11765613, 11765725, 11765328, 11765588, 11759324, 11749532, 11731459, 11712427, 11766152
Other complaints describe similar Electric-mode power fade and switching to the gas engine at highway speed without mentioning the 68C remedy. One of them (failed 11 October 2025, the day after the over-the-air update) reports dropping from 70 to 50 mph before the engine took over. Another owner ties the symptoms to recall 25V-710 and says no remedy is available yet.
NHTSA complaint numbers: 11765796, 11765123, 11756438, 11758042, 11762591
Two complaints fit neither main group cleanly. In one, power drops sharply in Hybrid mode when the battery reaches 0% and the engine takes over. In the other, power fades in Electric mode with all recalls done, and the following week the vehicle shows a 'service battery charging system' warning, will not start and is towed.
NHTSA complaint numbers: 11770042, 11773451
Dealers or the manufacturer told owners the reduced-power behaviour is normal or working as designed. One owner reports a dealer saying the 68C software now deliberately cuts electric power to keep the battery from overheating.
NHTSA complaint numbers: 11765588, 11749532, 11765123
Full shutdowns or Turtle (limp) mode with hybrid-system warnings that are not tied to the October update. These include one before the update (April and July 2025) and one about 25 hours after the 68C remedy, the complaint flagged as a crash.

25V710000Covers this problem
Covers 2023–2025 Wrangler 4xe: a software error in an over-the-air update may cause loss of drive power. It is filed under the model name 'Wrangler 4xe' and matches the October 2025 group of complaints. Some owners said in 2026 that no remedy was available yet.
25V766000Covers this problem
A recall on this vehicle (2024–2025 Wrangler 4xe, plus 2023–2025 Grand Cherokee 4xe): debris inside the engine may cause engine failure and loss of drive power. It does not explain either main group, but it may relate to some of the unexplained shutdowns. One owner (11762591) says the vehicle is awaiting an engine replacement under a separate recall.

Open questions
- Does the 25V710000 remedy fully fix the October 2025 shutdowns, and when did it become available? Owners in 2026 reported that no remedy was available yet.
- Is the capped power and fading Electric mode after Recall 68C a deliberate battery-protection strategy? If so, is the several-second gap before the gas engine takes over acceptable at highway speeds?
- What causes the shutdowns and Turtle-mode events that are not tied to the October update, and are any of them linked to the engine-debris recall 25V766000 or to the high-voltage battery itself?
- Did the complaint flagged as a crash involve an actual collision? Its narrative describes a near miss.
